The number of organizations registered in Petrozavodsk municipal district as of 01.07.2009 was 14757 units (64,3% of the total number in the Republic of Karelia).

TURNOVER OF ORGANIZATIONS

During the first 6 months of 2009, the turnover of large and medium-sized enterprises stood at 27,5 billion RUR or 92,1% of the amount for the similar period in 2008 (81,5% for the whole republic). The district has 43,7% of the total turnover of large and medium-sized enterprises of the Republic of Karelia.

SALES OF LOCALLY MANUFACTURED PRODUCTS, LOCAL PERFORMANCE OF WORKS AND SERVICE PROVISION

During the first 6 months of 2009, sales of locally manufactured products, locally executed works and services provided in Petrozavodsk municipal district made 7,7 billion RUR, i. e. 104,7% of the amount during the similar period in 2008 (74,4% for the whole republic).

PRODUCTION

During the first 6 months of 2009, the sales of local products within the sector called Production Industry made 3,0 billion RUR, or 87,7% of the similar period in 2008 (83,1% for the whole republic), including:

production of machines and equipment — 476,2 million RUR, or 73,7%;
production of food products, including drinks — 1116,8 million RUR, or 107,4%;
production of ready-made metal goods — 522,4 million RUR or 83,7%;
pulp-and-paper production, publishing and polygraph business — 40,0 million RUR or 84,5%;
production of non-ferrous mineral products — 13,7 million RUR or 33,3%;
production of vehicles and equipment — 330,4 million RUR or 65,7%.

CONSTRUCTION

The amount of construction works done by large and medium-sized enterprises of Petrozavodsk municipal district in the first 6 months of 2009 made 1167,8 million RUR or 67,3% of the amount of the similar period in 2008 (67,2% for the whole republic). The district has the share 76,7% of those activities in the republic.

CONSUMER MARKET

The turnover of trade among large and medium-sized enterprises of Petrozavodsk municipal district in the first 6 months of 2009 made 5,3 billion RUR or 87,8% of the level of the similar period in 2008 compared by constant prices (91,6% for the whole republic).

The turnover of the catering sector totaled to 159,0 million RUR or 4,1% less than during the similar period in 2008 in constant prices.

FEE-BASED SERVICES

The volume of fee-based services during the first 6 months of 2009 made 3,2 billion RUR and increased by 36,0% compared to the similar period in 2008 in comparable prices.

Municipal services have the biggest share in the total volume (32,4%) of services, communication services (26,2%), transport (17,4%), education (10,8%), medical services (4,7%), consumer services (3,2%), spa and health promotion (1,3%), housing (0,9%), and cultural sector (0,7%). They have the share of 97,7% of the total volume of fee-based services provided by large and medium-sized enterprises during the first 6 months of 2009. Chargeable services also include hotels, sports, veterinary and other services.

FINANCE

During the first 6 months of 2009, large and medium-sized enterprises of Petrozavodsk municipal district gained 756,3 million RUR of profits. As of 01.07.2009, the positive balanced financial result made 180,5 million RUR. Specific weight of profitable enterprises among the total number of analyzed companies was 59,4%, and 40,6% of companies were unprofitable.

EMPLOYMENT

The average staffing numbers at large and medium-sized enterprises of Petrozavodsk municipal district made 77,8 thousand people in January — May 2009 (10,4% less than during the similar period in 2008).
