Small Business

In at present small businesses are engaged in all types of economic activities.

The profile of small business on the territory of Petrozavodsk did not change during the year: whole and retail sale, catering, repairs of cars and electric appliances make almost 50%, processing industries and forestry — about 12%, transactions with real estate, rent and services — 13%, construction — 9%, transportation and communication — 7%, hotels and restaurants — 5%.

Promising areas of small and medium-sized business on the territory of Petrozavodsk urban district are information technologies, consulting, design, construction materials and technologies, forest resource processing, and tourism.

There has been a trend in Petrozavodsk urban district to retain the same number of small businesses. In 2007–2009, the number of small enterprises grew by 11,9% and totaled to 3,7 thousand units in 2009. The number of private entrepreneurs increased by 13,2% during the same period of time and reached 9,1 thousand people. The forecasts for 2010 also imply the increase of the numbers of small businesses.

According to the study made by the World Bank, which compared the norms of state regulation of entrepreneurship in several cities of Russia, the City of Petrozavodsk is number 3 (after Kazan and Tver) in terms of favorable conditions for running business.

The level of average monthly salaries in small business grew by 22% compared to 2008 and exceeded 13 thousand RUR.

The share of tax and non-tax revenues from small businesses made about 30% in Petrozavodsk urban district in 2009.
