Investment activities on the territory of Petrozavodsk Municipality during 6 months of 2010

By the end of 6 months of 2010, the investments in capital assets totaled to 877,6 million RUR, what is 72,0% compared to the similar period in 2009.

The key investments in capital assets during 6 months of 2010 (51,9%) were made in purchasing cars, equipment and means of transport (6 months of 2009–38,2%), as well as in construction and reconstruction of buildings and structures — 26,3% (6 months of 2009–40,0%).

By types of economic activities, investments during 6 months of 2010 were made in the following industries (figures for 6 months of 2009 see in the brackets):

  • processing industries — 8,8% (16,1%);
  • production and distribution of electricity, gas and water — 1,8% (9,4%);
  • transport and communication — 15,7% (12,4%);
  • transactions with real estate, rent — 25,9% (22,6%);
  • state management, social security — 13,8% (19,3%).

Creation of new jobs is one of the advantages of investment projects. According to the estimates of the Administration of Petrozavodsk Municipality, over 500 new jobs will be created thanks to large investment projects in 2010, and several such industrial projects are being implemented.

Project by OOO “Yagoda Karelii” on launching manufacturing of food products from fruit and berries. The new factory for manufacturing products from fruit and berries will be the biggest of its kind in Russia. The production building is already in place, internal finishing is under way, and equipment has been imported from Italy. In November installation works will start.

Implementation of the project by OOO “DOK Kalevala” on building the biggest OSB board factory in Russia has been started.

Production capacities of ZAO “Petrozavodskmash” are still being modernized, including a unique special-purpose unit for producing goods for nuclear industry.

OOO “Torgovii Dom „Yarmarka“ continues modernizing its production capacities in order to extend the volume and variety of goods and to enhance their quality.

OAO “Karelskii Myasokombinat” and OAO “Petrozavodskii Khlebozavod SAMPO” are also planning to modernize their production equipment.

In the future, a factory for manufacturing economy class two-storied wooden houses on the basis of the innovative panel-and-beam technology will be built. It will have the capacity of 200 thousand sq. m housing per year.

Projects are continuing aimed at modernizing municipal utilities’ infrastructure (heating, water, power and gas supply).

Branch “Karelskii” of OAO “TGK No. 1” is planning to conduct a series of activities on preparing for  a large-scale reconstruction of Petrozavodsk CHP and upgrade heating pipelines in the city.

OAO “PKS” is building a modern modular boiler house in Solomennoye residential area. The project is part of the approved investment program.

Cleanness and development of Petrozavodsk is one of the key goals for the Administration of the city. 4 new graders were purchased for the new winter season of 2010–2011, KAMAZ truck for maintaining storm water drains and 4 totally new machines, multipurpose tractors Kramer made in Germany.

In the nearest future, the fleet of machines of the company will get a new “vacuum cleaner” made in Holland for collecting litter in the streets, and 2 more graders.

Petrozavodsk Administration also considers sanitary treatment of the city to be of importance.

In 2010 PMUE “Avtospetstrans” purchased 9 new dumptrucks and a modern vehicle on Volvo chassis for operating new-type containers for separate waste collection.

Besides new machinery and equipment, “Avtospetstrans” will soon get a line for processing bulk waste.

An important area of operation of Petrozavodsk Municipality is proper road maintenance.

This year, over 160 million RUR have been spent for this purpose from the city and republican budgets. At 17 sections of the road the asphalt was totally replaced, and capital repairs and extension of the driveway were done in Syktyvkarskaya str.

Besides, in 2010, 264 million RUR more were allocated for road repairs from the federal budget. Asphalt will be replaced on 17 city reads and yards on the total area of 115,9 thousand sq. m.

In June 2010, repairs are being continued on the road Kukkovka-Drevlyanka. The last 500 meters of the driveway are being extended, and asphalt is being laid on the remaining two lanes. 75 million RUR were allocated for this purpose.

Hotel infrastructure is being actively developed. In 2010, a new hotel “Azimut” was built in Petrozavodsk in Lunacharskogo str. for 21 guests (IE Lopatin A. V. ) and a hotel “Onezhskii Zamok” in Fedosova str. for 67 guests (OOO “Zelyonii Bereg”).

Hotel “Onego-Palace” for 103 guests is at the final stage of construction. This is the largest tourist infrastructure development project in Petrozavodsk with the budget over 1 billion RUR.

In 2010, projects started for constructing two new hotels on the territory of Petrozavodsk Municipality:

  • on Gagarina sq. (OOO “Concern Piter”). A three-star hotel for 400 persons.Construction to be completed in 2012.
  • on Kirova sq. (OOO “Garant Service”). A three-star hotel for 145 persons.Construction to be completed in 2012.

With the goal to develop sports on the territory of Petrozavodsk, the Administration caries out activities aimed at the construction of sport facilities. In 2010, a design will be made for the construction of a sheltered skating rink in Perevalka residential area, and design estimates will be prepared for building a sports and health promotion center with a swimming pool in Drevlyanka area in Heikkonena str. A similar facility will be built in Kukkovka residential area as well.

In the area of health care, Petrozavodsk Administration allocates resources for repairing premises in municipal health facilities and for procuring new high-tech equipment. In order in increase accessibility of medical services, in 2010 a building was reconstructed in Zelyonaya str. 4 for establishing a doctor’s office for Policlinic No. 1 for adults. In 2011, a GP office will be opened in the area of Ptitsefabrika.

Trade is being actively developed on the territory of Petrozavodsk. ZAO “Tander” annually extends a chain of stores “Magnit”.

With the aim to better implement the investment potential of Petrozavodsk municipality, a long-term program was launched in 2009 called “Development of Investment Climate in Petrozavodsk Municipality in 2009–2011”.

The activities of the Program are targeted at priority areas of social and economic development of the territory. Investment projects are monitored in the framework of the Program what contributes to timely response to the changing environment.
